Thank You for visiting! Let's explore "Hope Is A Bird" together.
The concept of the music video is based on the idea that depression is something that we all experience no matter our background.
Yet HOPE and healing is also universal and there is comfort in the shared experience.
To really bring home the message I asked an amazing community of people to sing the song in a way that was most authentic to them and had each line of the song sung by a different person.
The Album Artwork points back to themes of mental health, birds and references to Emily Dickinson's poem "Hope Is The Thing With Feathers".
“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -
And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

This demo was recorded on my phone in my kitchen during a very dark moment in my life.
I needed help but I was afraid to ask for it, I didn't know where to find it and I also couldn't afford it.
I am grateful now that I made it through even when I thought there was no way out, and it was thanks to certain people in my life that pieced me back together when I had fallen apart.
The delivery in this demo is a bit different from the final recorded version but it's all there and in the end of the recording you'll even hear Julian and Bandit (my canine son) coming back from a walk.

We launched this single with BIG help from the community. Local businesses contributed items meant to promote mental wellness which were raffled off at the show.
I was also supported on stage by my best friends and literally my whole production team.
I wanted them to all be on stage to share the magical moment together and I couldn't have done it without them...also it was the first time I wasn't strapped to a guitar!
Long and McQuade music store donated a Ukulele.
Sage Natural Wellness donated an aromatherapy kit and diffuser.
MulberryTreeLetters specially made wall art and tableware with lyrics from 'Hope Is A Bird'.
Beachwood Flower Shop donated plants.
Passion Knit donated a hand knit sweater.
Golden Harmony Martial Arts donated meditation classes.
Love Karaoke? This is your chance to belt 'Hope Is A Bird'.
I made Julian flap around our yard and make hand birds to create shadows in this video. I also made him smoke a bunch of cigarettes so that I could get those butts...but let's not talk about that.
for hanging out!
Here are a few helpful tips if you know someone who is going through a tough time.
It really helped me to feel less isolated even if it was just a random text that said 'how are you?'
and now I try to do these things for other people.
ACTIVE LISTENING TIPS - if you are supporting someone who is hurting
1. Listen without judgement
2. Ask "how can I help?"
3. Validate their feelings
4. Tell them you want to hear - they're not a burden.
5. Listen with the intention to understand not to fix
6. Ask when you have time to listen
7. Be patient
8. Keep in touch even if you get no response
